Video Transcript – Deciding on a Plan of Action: 2 Approaches
So you have bed bugs and we are here to tell you that you can get rid of them. But you are going to have to take one of two comprehensive approaches to get rid of them. Unfortunately it’s not enough to spray, launder your clothes, and encase your mattress. You are going to have to doa lot more than that. There are a lot of very ethical, very competent pest control professionals out there. But unfortunately, there are some pest control professionals that are maybe not as competent. Some of these professionals will give you a brief list of things that you can so such as encase your mattress and launder your clothes. Then they will come in and spray. Unfortunately that’s really, really not enough.
We recommend one of two methods.
The first method is what we call the 8-Step Approach which will include several things. Heat treatment of personal items, using diatomaceous earth, encasing your mattresses, thorough cleaning of your home and a number of other steps. We’ll go into much more detail in other videos.
The second approach is professional heat treating your entire home. This is where a team of professionals come in and they use giant industrial heater and fans linked to cables to generators outside of your home. They gradually heat up your entire home to above bed bug killing temperature.
Both methods are actually very, very effective if they are done correctly. And really, there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
With the do-it-yourself approach the big advantages is that it’s far less expensive than calling in a team of professional to heat treat your entire home. The disadvantage is that it requires a tremendous amount of personal time and effort and that shouldn’t be underestimated. With heat treatment of your entire home, the main advantage is that it does not require nearly as much personal time. You are basically having professionals heat treat your entire home. In other words they come in with giant industrial fans and heaters and heat up your entire home to bed bug killing temperatures. The downside as you might expect is that it is very expensive, in fact prohibitively expensive for most people.
Both methods are very effective but they do require that they both be done properly to actually eliminate bed bugs, the entire colony of bed bugs from your home. In further videos we’re going to go into a lot more detail on each approach so that you can make the choice that is right for you.
