Hotel bed bugs
December 15, 2011 If you travel often or are going on vacation with the family, you are probably concerned about picking up bed bugs. You have good reason to be worried. Bed bug infestations in hotels have grown at an exponential rate over the past few years. So what can you do to prepare? Well, there are several things you can do. First, lower your chances of encountering bed bugs. Go to The Bed Bug Registry and check to see if the hotels you're looking at have bed bugs. Second, check your hotel room when you arrive. Adult bed bugs are visible to the naked eye and they love to hang around mattress seams and pillow seams. Check them all before you place any luggage on the bed. If the room is infested, notify the hotel staff and get out of there. Third, keep everything in sealed plastic bags. Think large ziplock bags. Simply tying a garbage bag shut won't do the trick. You need a seal. Fourth, heat treat everything that comes home with you. We're talking shoes, clothes, laptops, luggage...everything. To do this you can use a heater like the ZappBug or the Packtite Closet. Of course we recommend the ZappBug but you should research both before you make the purchase. As Always, please ask us if you have any questions. We're always happy to help kill beg bugs! Happy Holidays!
